Mr. Violette

We've gotten quite a bit of feedback about our bit of news on Eric Violette (aka the FreeCreditReport.com guy).

There have been some conflicting views, some supporting views, some thinly-veiled threats of legal action, and even a comment by someone who appears to be the man himself, as well as his sister.

Our only recourse as a responsible journalistic entity would be to request an interview with Mr. Violette and allow the man a chance to explain his side of the story and perhaps clear his name of these wild accusations.

As professionals, we are not at liberty to reveal our source, but given the clues we gave in the initial article, it's probably not all that difficult to narrow it down.

Anyways, Mr. Violette, if you are interested in explaining how this story may have come to us and wish to comment on its validity, contact us at forcedentryblog@gmail.com and we'll be glad to give you the proper forum to speak your mind.

Just as an observer:
1)As a "journalist" are you printing heresay or did you actually check out your sources?

2)I've read all posts and other than an observation made by one as to the rights of this individual and responsibility of the writer of this article, where are the legal threats? C'mon...that's really stretching it don't you think?

1) we can print heresy any time we want... here's some heresy for you: "God and Jesus used to touch weiners"

Or did you mean hearsay?

2)you're the one emailing us all those threats of lawsuits, aren't you? Come on, anonymous, make yourself known.

Ouch! Did I hit a nerve? Once again, you're stretching.

I made an observation of the posts only. I never sent any email threatening anyone. Perhaps you should trace them. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do that. I don't know this individual or his family or friends. I don't even know anyone living in Canada. I only made an observation after reading your story and the posts which followed. Excuse my spelling error. Regardless, this could be very damaging and I feel it's irresponsible on your part for printing something so potentially damaging without checking out your sources.

FYI

LIABILITY
False statements and statements which seriously harm an individual's reputation are subject to libel law. Writers must check their facts and have substantiating evidence to back up claims or accusations made in articles. Writers should also be aware that the Privacy Law in Canada protects individual's rights within their offices and homes, as well as from reports on circumstances which may be embarrassing to the individual i.e.) sexual orientation, medical problems or histories, family issues.

Just a little tidbit I found on a legal site regarding this very issue. Hey, if you’ve checked everything out and have evidence to back up these claims then you have nothing to worry about. If not, perhaps you should get a job with The Globe or National Enquirer...even they know they will get sued but are smart enough to pull in more money from sales to more than cover any lawsuits they lose from printing trash.
